If you happen to be around Old Bond Street try to find the Ormonde Jayne perfume boutique in one of the Victorian shopping arcades. The shop is really worth a visit - calm, all dark wood and mirrors, soft light vanishing in heavy square bottles. The bottles are full of expensive natural materials and feminine floral forms. British luxurious elegance as it is - very “lady’.
With some luck the owner herself will descend from upstairs to tell you about the perfumes. I went into the shop to try theirs Champaca and walked away with a nice box of samples. These however are given for free too and shop assistants do not insist on an immediate purchase. On the contrary they would rather send you away to spend some time with the fragrance, get acquainted with it before deciding.
